Oreo launched a web series to honor all those who remix their food in creative ways. The Oreo Snack Hacks web series showcases three top chefs : Roy Choi, Michael Voltaggio and Nguyen Tran who hack the popular treat into food entrées. The videos are part of the ongoing Snack Hacks campaign, however the idea of tweaking the way in which to eat an Oreo didn’t come from the company and was actually inspired by a viral picture of a person dunking an Oreo in milk with the help of a fork, in order to keep the hands clean.
“In 100 years people have been dunking Oreo cookies, and somebody comes up with a fork!” Kristin Hajinlian, brand manager at Oreo at Mondelez International Inc., said. “Isn’t that a creative way to enjoy the cookie in a new way? It got us thinking about what are the other kitchen utensils and things that you can bring into the Oreo experience.”
The company then realized that remixing the way of eating Oreos and food in general is a popular trend online, so they decided to get on board with it. Soon, the brand was encouraging people to post their twists on eating Oreos using the hashtag #OreoSnackHacks. Some of the Oreo Snack Hacks discovered were grinding the Oreos to create sprinkles or adding bits of the biscuits to popcorn for additional flavor.
“We look at our social content really as a way to connect with our fans. We’re always looking for things they are most interested in,” Hajinlian said.
The company isn’t interested in bringing the Oreo Snack Hacks campaign to print or TV, as they prefer to stay organic in the land of social media. Do you have any Oreo Snack Hacks up your sleeve?
