It comes as no surprise to hear the LED bulbs are much more efficient than traditional ones. They are more energy-efficient and longer lasting. However, despite all that, customers keep finding excuses to keep their old incandescent bulbs. Whether it is because of habit, or a fear of change, traditionalists keep choosing the old style bulbs.
Philips comes with a bulb that has clear glass and a special LED lens that looks like a traditional filament. It looks and shines exactly like the old style light bulbs. Perhaps this new invention will finally convince traditionalists to give up on incandescent bulbs and accept their more efficient LED counterparts.
At first glance, the new Philips LED bulb looks just like a traditional, incandescent one. It uses crystal glass and a LED lens that is shaped to look like a classic filament. The design will be the first thing that will endear this new LED bulb to traditionalists. The second thing will be the fact that it features the same type of lighting generated by a filament light bulb. Moreover, it is built to emit light in all directions instead of focusing it in a general area as most LED bulbs do.
The new Philips LED bulb gives a 40-watt glow. It provides an output of 470 lumens. It is also dimmable which will give it more versatility to be used in different settings around the house. A price for the US has not been announced yet, but in Europe you will be able to buy the new light bulb for €8.99. That is more expensive than a traditional, incandescent light bulb. However, Philips claims that this new bulb will last for 25,000 hours. In the long run, it is clear which of the two is the better way to go. Will you buy it?
