Lexus Nuaero is a lightweight and spacious vehicle, despite its dimensions. Designed by Jon Radbrink, the Nuaero is a swedish example of what sustainability means in practice.
Swedish designer Jon Radbrink presented the concept back in 2008, at the Royal College of Art graduation show in London. Questions remain if the Nuaero ever met the production line. Although the transition from conventional to ecological vehicles was well pronounced in the last years, concepts such as the Nuaero are hard to find on the market. Perhaps a problem of sponsorship and direction?
Anyhow, this particular eco car concept brings back action movies to life. And with its installed touchscreen dashboard, we’d pretty much enjoy the idea of having such a feature in our own vehicles. What’s overwhelming is the lack of foot pedals and transmission.
The Lexus Nuaero accelerates and stops according to the way you pull or push the steering wheel. Nothing more simple if we could say so. Its shape is designed for aerodynamic purposes, or as Jon Radbrink stated himself, the Nuaero concept ‘proposes a new language to communicate ecological efficiency through an architecture inspired by aerodynamics‘.
Lexus Nuaero has an electric motor as to promote an emission free environment. Its measures are at about 4.73 meters in length, 2 meters in width and 1.25 meters in height. In other words, it’s designed mostly as a sports car. Although spacious, it doesn’t weight more than 800 kg.
Radbrink underlined the fact that the Nuaero consists out of two parts: Visual Aerodynamics and Contrasting Elements. Although pointy shapes are what we used to learn about as being the best remedies to achieve energy efficiency, the Lexus Nuaero proves otherwise.
It reminds us of a BMW concept, the Sequence GT. A structure with two peaks in front, which not only harnesses energy efficiency, but also speed.
Jon Radbrink has already made a name out of the Lexus Nuaero, by winning the Pilkington Award for Best Use of Glazing. Unfortunately, nothing is heard of the vehicle’s activity, Radbrink already working on newer designs, such as the Alfa Romeo Avanzato concept. How do you find the Lexus Nuaero?
