Mark van der Heijden is a copywriter born in Eindhoven, the Netherlands. He has over six years of experience in advertising, having worked for several ad agencies in the Netherlands, organizing successful events and training other in the field of advertising at an academy in Amsterdam. He is passionate about his work, has a sense of adventure and loves good stories. Perhaps that’s the reason why in 2014 he chose to write an amazing story filled with adventure, with himself as the main character. Mark van der Heijden became the Backpacker intern.
Mark embarked on a great adventure this year, as he offered his copywriting services to anyone who will provide him with food and a place to sleep. He does not want to get paid for his work, just to share his creativity with the world. He quit his job, left his apartment and shot a video in which he announced the world of his plan. He uses social media to the fullest, giving updates via Twitter and also writing about his whereabouts on his website. His Facebook advertises his projects and the offers kept coming. The first internship he secured was with Amnesty International Thailand. followed by one at McCann Worldgroup Bangkok. He is getting offers from all over the world : India, Dublin, Beijing, Dubai and Stockholm, to name a few.
Mark van der Heijden offers a great example of how to use social networks to their full advantage when it comes to finding a job. He stands out from the crowd, emphasizing the fact that he really is creative, not to mention that he gets to travel the world, meet new people and work on amazing projects. His project quickly became viral and the adventure continues. In our opinion, Mark van der Heijden is an inspiration.
