1. Aniva Rock Lighthouse, Russia
This island was claimed by both Russia and Japan. It is now a territory controlled by the Russians, but it remains an uninhabited area in the seas between the two countries.
2. Pripyat, Ukraine
Pripyat is an abandoned city located in Ukraine, in the proximity of the border with Belarus. Founded in 1970 for the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, this was the ninth nuclear city of the Soviet Union. A few days after the Chernobyl disaster, the city was abandoned. After being evacuated, it remained a radioactive ghost town. Now, the area can only be visited through guided tours.
3. Ryugyong Hotel, North Korea
The Ryugyong is a massive hotel that has been abandoned for no less than 16 years until work to rehabilitate it began. The structure is absolutely amazing.
4. Gulliver’s Travel Park, Japan
Located in Japan, this theme park first opened in 1997. After 10 years, it was abandoned.
5. Bannerman Castle, New York
This beautiful castle was built by Francis Bannerman as a storage space in which he placed the military surplus that he purchased after the American war with the Spanish. An explosion occurred here in 1920, which destroyed much of the castle. Since then the place has been abandoned.
6. Mirny Diamond Mine, Russia
The Mirny Diamond Mine was built by Stalin to satisfy the industrial diamond requirements of the country. However, it was abandoned, being too hard to dig into the huge hole.
7. Chateau Miranda, Belgium
Built by French aristocrats, Miranda Castle is a beautiful place. The castle served as an orphanage during World War II. In 1980 it was abandoned. Many ghost stories are inspired by this scary castle.
8. Underwater town, Shicheng, China
A beautiful underwater city, Shicheng, also known as the Lion City, is located in China. In 1959 it submerged because of the Xin’an River Hydropower Station, which was built here. The water protects the ruins of this city. This city actually is 1341 years old.
9. Hashima Island, Japan
Located in Japan, this island is also known as the Battleship Island or the Ghost Island. Until the 1900s, the island was populated due to its access to undersea coal mines. As the mines closed down, inhabitants left this place.
10. Kolmanskop, Namibia
Kolmanskop became quite known as an area rich in diamonds, which were found by German settlers. After World War II the diamond resources were gone, while the town was deserted.
11. Michigan Central Station in Detroit, USA
The Michigan Central Station dates back to the year 1913. It closed in 1988, since when the building has been abandoned. When it was built, this way the tallest rail station in the world.
12. Keelung, Taiwan
Keelung is a beautiful abandoned city located in Taiwan. Its ruins make this city look like it has never been inhabited.
13. Sanzhi UFO Houses, Taiwan
Construction for these homes started in 1978. They were meant to be sold to US military officers. Still, only after 2 years construction stopped and the place was abandoned, due to loss of investment in the project.
14. Canfranc Rail Station, Spain
The Canfranc Rail Station became an abandoned place in 1970. The rail station had to be abandoned when an accident destroyed a nearby bride and ended rail links between Spain and France.
15. Abandoned Domino Sugar Factory, New York
Located in Brooklyn, New York, this still is an impressive construction. It closed down in 2004.
16. Maunsell Sea Forts, United Kingdom
Also abandoned places, these forts were first built during World War II with the purpose to protect River Thames.

The Eastern State Penitentiary first opened in 1829. In 1971, it closed down. An abandoned place today, this is where famous prisoners such as Willie Sutton and Al Capone were held.
21. New Bedord Orpheum, USA
The New Bedord Orpheum is a beautiful old theater, which can be found in Massachusetts, in the United States. The theater first opened in 1912, but it closed down in 1959.
22. Craco, Italy
A commune located in Italy, Craco is placed at about 25 miles distance from the Gulf of Taranto. The beautiful place was abandoned in 1963. People left the area because of the recurring earthquakes.
23. Sunken Yacht, Antarctica
Quite an impressive view, this is a 76-foot powerboat which had sunk in Antarctica. Now, the yacht is trapped under the ice.

The Monastery in the Black Forest of Germany is a 15th century construction. This was St. George’s Abbey, a Benedictine monastery.
25. SS Ayrfield, Homebush Bay, Australia
SS Ayrfield was an impressive ship, built in 1911 in the UK. The ship brought supplies to American troops in the Pacific region. It was used during World War II.
26. Abandoned Subway Station, New York
This beautiful subway station sits underneath the City Hall in New York. The station was closed in 1945.
27. Lawndale Theater, Chicago
Lawndale Theater first opened in Chicago in 1927. This was a large movie house which could seat 2,000. In 1963, the place closed down. The former theater has currently hosted a church.

A Fort located in the Sahyadri mountains, close to Matheran, this is quite an impressive place.
29. Nara Dreamland, Japan
An amusement park located in Japan, Nara Dreamland first opened in 1961. It closed down in 2006.
