Disney has provided the world with many heart warming films, adapting fairy tales and bringing them to life in front of our eyes. It filled the world with more than just movies, it filled it with hope, smiles and love. The genius of Walt Disney transformed the world of animation and paved the way for this incredibly beautiful industry. Nowadays, however, animated films tend to lack the flavour of old-school animations made by Disney, and if you’re anything like us, you’d like to spend some quality time with your kids, viewing some of the greatest animations of all time. Take your children on a journey back to your own childhood and enjoy the ride!
#1. Beauty and the Beast
A Disney classic and my personal favorite, Beauty and the Beast is the undying story of Belle and her prince, who isn’t the stereotypical Prince Charming, but a tormented soul seeking redemption. A story about the power of love that simply gives us hope that the world isn’t always as shallow as it may seem. Also, it was the first animated film in history to be nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture!
#2. The Lion King
One of Disney’s most ambitious projects, The Lion King is to this day one of the most loved animations. Wondering why? Because it manages to convey a strong message about loyalty, love and standing up for ourselves. Your kids will fight along Simba and laugh hard with Timon and Pumba. And you will love every second of it!
#3. The Little Mermaid
The tale of Danish writer Hans Christian Anderson was beautifully told by Disney in this 1989 film. Following her heart’s desire, Ariel gets a glimpse of the world her father so desperately tried to protect her from. It may speak to you as a parent, as you will relate to the way the King of the oceans acted. Anyway, being a Disney film, you will also sing along with Sebastian and enjoy life in the underwater kingdom.
#4. The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Based on the novel with the same name by French writer Victor Hugo, the plot follows the life of Quasimodo, a hunchback bell ringer living in the famous French cathedral as he struggles to find his place in society while also helping his gypsy friend Esmeralda. Your kids will learn an important lesson by watching this movie: we have to be tolerant and accept people for who they are, and to not judge anyone based on appearance.
#5. The AristoCats
Cats are adorable, and that’s a given. But when we’re talking about AristoCats, the story is a whole different one. This was the last movie to be given the go-ahead by Walt Disney prior to his death, and it follows the adventures of three cats who inherited the fortune of an opera singer. Your kids will love this fun action-filled movie by Disney.
This is our list of top 5 Disney movies to watch with your children, but there are many more films worth seeing. What’s your personal favorite?
