Designers create eco car concepts that boggle the mind, scientists are looking for ways to create bio fuels but the classic bikes are one of our biggest assets. Bicycles are already environmental friendly. More and more people turn to them for transportation each day. What if bikes can have even more eco features? The Air Purifier Bike, a concept that won the Red Dot design award, cleans the air while you ride it.
The Air Purifier Bike was designed by Lightfog Creative and Design, a company from Bangkok, Thailand. They described their concept as a “photosynthesis system” that cleans the air by using water and electricity from the battery of the bike. Between the handles of the bike the designers added an air filter. This filter screens pollutants and dust. Besides the batery, the Air Purifier Bike also has a water tank and an electric motor.
When you ride the bike, the air is forced through the filter and cleaned. The purified oxygen is later released through the vents. The photosynthesis system could operate even when the bide is not moving.
Silawat Virakul, the creative director of the project, wishes to build a prototype to test the Air Purifier Bike’s effectiveness. The design team wants to find out how much air can be filtered and whether the concept actually has chances of success to be mass produced. By building a prototype, they could find out exactly how much oxygen their concept can produce.
The Air Purifier Bike is another concept meant to protect the environment and cut down emissions of automobiles. Silawat Virakul says he wanted to “add more value to a bicycle by adding to it a feature to reduce pollution“. Do you think this concept can be successful?
