Having a property means having to secure it. You must make sure to monitor it with a good security system. Sometimes, cameras are not enough. Knightscope Inc, a startup company based in Silicon Valley is currently developing an “Autonomous Data Machine.” This new invention will be used to watch over a property in a more cost efficient way. Owners will be able to forego human security and opt for the two robot models Knightscope K5 and K10. Beta customers have already been secured for the two robot models.
The K5 Autonomous Data Machine will be used to monitor the activity along a designated route and sound the alarm if something out of the ordinary happens. Star Wars fans will also be thrilled by the fact that their robot resembles the famous R2D2.
The robots use several sensors to collect information. Among these sensors are a 360-degree high definition video camera, high quality microphones, thermal imaging sensor, infrared sensor, distance sensors, etc. Optional sensors can be added to scan things such as license plates.
All the data that is collected can be accessed by law enforcement officers in real time. It is added in a centralized data center. This is useful because the police can decide whether something bad is really happening there. The information can also be used to predict crime and help businesses make better decisions.
As far as its design goes, the Knightscope K5 was created to have a “commanding but friendly physical presence”. William Santana Li, the Chairman and CEO of Knightscope stated the K5 was created to provide “an avenue for all Americans to join the fight against crime”. The Knightscope K5 can be seen at the Plug and Play Winter Expo in Sunnyvale, California. Would you use this robot to protect your property?
