Smart digital billboards that can transform reality or know exactly their surroundings are used to promote smart brands in a surprising and involving manner. They are more and more seen in cities around world, another way for socially involved corporations to become a part of their consumer’s life.
The latest smart digital billboard is this one put up in the Piccadilly Circus in London. The city, well-known for the many planes flying over it every hour, has now a smart digital billboard that points to them. It doesn’t only know that the plane is visible, reading the cloud height, but it also gives information on destination, flight number and the weather up there. British Airways signs this breakthrough way of advertising.
A smart phone chose a smart digital billboard for the launch in New Zealand. Samsung Galaxy S4 created the virtual waiting line in which people would virtually gather competing to be the first to get the phone. Sharing news they received about Galaxy S4 earned them points and sent them further up the line. See the video for all details of the campaign.
BMW iWindow reflected traffic in New York in a futuristic manner. In the smart digital billboard, cars driving by were transformed into BMW concept cars. The image showed BMW’s vision of the future city streets. Using motion detection and digital projection, the window functioned in real time.
