When we least expect it, noise stumbles in our home. It might be the neighbors above who are throwing a party. Perhaps constructions are taking place across the street. Whatever it is, noise is annoying and can make your day sour. Extreme phonic pollution can lead to headaches and migraines. Unfortunately, our windows cannot stop the noise no matter how good and expensive they are. Still, a new invention might be able to do so. The new noise cancelling Sono device can be mounted on your window. It filters unpleasant sounds and allows you to choose only what you want to hear.
Windows will no longer be the menace they are now if you live in urban environments. With the help of the Sono device, noise pollution will be canceled. The device is only a prototype at the moment. It works similarly to the noise cancellation module that can be found in high-end headphones.
The Sono device uses a microphone to pick up sounds. Afterwards, it sends out sounds with the same frequency and wavelength, but 180 degrees out of phase. When they collide, the sounds are canceled before they reach your window. The device uses an “energy antenna” that powers the internal battery with electromagnetic activity.
However, the Sono device doesn’t simply cancel sounds. Instead, it isolates specific noises. As a result you can block the sound of traffic, while simultaneously allow the sound of birds inside your home. Sono is able to distinguish between a wide range of frequencies and also neutralize some of them.
This innovative concept is a finalist in the run for the prestigious James Dyson award. If designer Rudolf Stefanich wins, he will receive a sum of money that will help him further develop his prototype and speed up the product’s development.
Would you mount the Sono device on your window and use it to cancel the bothersome noise outside?
