Perhaps, one of the most dreaded diseases of all times is Alzheimer’s disease. There is no cure for this illness and no way of stopping it. The only thing you can do with medicine is perhaps, delay its effects. For many years scientists have tried to find a way to cure it. A new research that uses photo therapy might be the key.Researchers at Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden have made a discovery that might lead to the cure for Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and Creutzfeldt-Jakob diseases by using photo therapy.
The aggregations of proteins is the known cause for these diseases. The cure might mean finding the aggregation and removing it from the brain. Researchers at Chalmers University of Technology in Sweden and Polish Wroclaw University of Technology believe they might have found the solution. They wish to use lasers to discover the harmful proteins. A multi-photon laser technique could be used to help them distinguish the good proteins from the bad ones. After they are discovered, doctors might be able to use photo acoustic therapy to remove them. Once bad proteines are removed, the disease is practically cured. This type of photo technique is currently used in tomography.
This solution is both non-invasive and non-toxic. As a result, the disease could be cured without harming the patient or leaving him/her suffer from the after-effects. Piotr Hanczyc of the Chalmers University of Technology believes this might be a breakthrough in medicine. He hopes that in time, the photo method could be successfully used as a cure. The challenge for the researchers is to differentiate between the good proteins and the harmful ones.
PErhaps noone has thought before of using photo therapy to cure Alzheimer’s. Do you believe this research will conclude with the discovery of an easily applicable cure?
