King Richard I of England, best known as Richard the Lionhearted, was a king very keen on crusades. 1. Richard the Lionhearted actually spent less than 1 year in England
Of his 10-year reign, king Richard I actually spent less than one in England. Some sources state that it was even less than 6 months, while others that he was there for 10 months. The reason is that he loved France a lot more than England and he considered France his home.
2. The king’s nose began to bleed when he approached his father’s dead body
Back in those ages, this phenomenon indicated that he might have been guilty of killing his father. This was pretty probable, as he combined with the king of France in a final rebellion.

The king feared that his sons would kill him, so he didn’t allow them have swords.

6. Richard had an odd death
He was killed by a gangrene from a wound caused by a crossbow bolt. While attacking the fortress of Chalus, a guard saw his little squadron of horsemen and fired his crossbow in their direction. The bolt hit Richard in his left shoulder, and he stood up on his stirrups to congratulate the soldier for his dexterity. As it was difficult to extract the arrowhead and heal the infected wound, gangrene appeared in a few days and Richard met his death, forgiving the defenders of the fortress, and especially the one who shot him.
