Stella Artois is one of the biggest beer brands in the world, and has a constant dedication to push limits and align the brand with innovation. This time, Stella Artois turned to an Iphone App to create an impressive brand experience for beer connoisseurs. The app was launched in 2009, an important milestone for Stella Artois, as back in 2009 only a few brands invested in technology. The plan was to create an application which would be helpful in everyday life, a market leader that would appeal to a wide audience. Thus, Le Bar Guide was born!

The app uses augmented reality and user generated content in order to recommend users the best bars in their vicinity. Using their Iphone, people just have to search for bars using a zip code, a country or rating. After displaying the results, the users could choose from a number of places the bar that best suited their preferences. Holding the phone up right would generate profiles of bars in the user’s proximity and holding it horizontally would show arrows which led to bars.
Le Bar Guide by Stella Artois was an intelligent way to connect people on the quest to find the perfect bar in which to drink the perfectly poured beer from the trademark chalice glass. The app was previewed at Stella Artois World Draught Master Global finals, held in New York in October 2009., where bartenders from over 20 countries competed for the World Draught Master title.
The app offers its users the chance to rate the places they drink beer in, according to “le Menu”, “le Clientele”, “le Service”, creating a peer review system for people around the world. Stella Artois managed to use the application in order to create a connection among bar goers around the world, and managed to create a powerful brand experience with a simple smartphone app.
