Kremlin is probably the first place that tourists visit when they come to Moscow. Kremlin is considered the biggest fortress built between the 14th and 15th century. Built by a prince in 1156, Kremlin was a wooden fortification. The walls were built during the years 1485 and 1495. Today, it contains four palaces and four cathedrals.
2. Bolshoi Theatre
Built in 1776, the Bolshoi Theatre is one of the oldest in the world. The beautiful theatre was designed by Osip Bove. In 1853 the Bolshoi Theatre was almost destroyed in a fire. The building was rehabilitated by Albert Kavos, who also made some changes to its structure and decor.
3. Cathedral of the Assumption
The Cathedral of the Assumption is the most important church in Kremlin and the oldest in the city. The original cathedral was built at the command of Ivan Kalita. The Cathedral suffered a lot of changes during the years, for example when Napoleon arrived in Russia with his troops the church was seriously damaged. In 1918 the Cathedral was closed and it reopened for the public in 1990.
4. State Pushkin Museum of Visual Art
Inaugurated in 1912, the Pushkin Museum is home to over 500.000 artworks. Art passionate can admire sculptures, paintings and exhibits from ancient history. An interesting fact is that the museum is constantly altering its exhibits to give visitors the chance to see more paintings and sculptures from its gigantic collection.
5. Gorky Park
Gorky Park is commonly described as one of the most festive places in the beautiful Russian city. Also known as the Park of Culture, it goes for an area of 3 kilometers along the Moskva River.
