Literature nowadays has undergone many changes. Numerous genres have branched from older ones. Now we read book that bear tags such as New Adult, Young Adult or Urban Fantasy. The books of old sit in the corners of our bookshelves, gathering dust, while we read novels about vampires, romantic dramas, love triangles and post-apocalyptic scenarios. However, no matter what changes literature undergoes, we will always have the classic adventure books that we loved in the past. Those books that took us on wondrous journeys to the center of the Earth, that made us believe in a motto such as “All for one, one for all,” and that helped us dream with eyes wide open. No matter how many years shall pass, these books will always be loved. They have withstood the test of time and entered the annals of literature.
1. The Three Musketeers by Alexandre Dumas
Perhaps one of the best classic adventure novels in French literature, the book tells the story of young D’Artagnan and his endeavor to become a musketeer. The friendship that binds him to Athos, Porthos and Aramis is famous, as is his desire to lead a life in service of King and country.
2. The Call of the Wild by Jack London
A list of classis adventure novels would not be complete without the works of Jack London. His novels are among American masterpieces. “The Call of the Wild” tells the story of Buck, a civilized dog that is slowly transformed by the harsh environment in the leader of a team of dogs that pulls a sled through the Yukan territory.
3. Around the world in eighty days by Jules Verne
When talking about Jules Verne’s novels, one would have a hard time picking just one amazing adventure book. Most of them are classics, depicting engaging and enchanting adventures throughout the world. Perhaps one of the most iconic ones is “Around the world in eighty days.” It is easy to think about crossing the globe nowadays. Despite all that, reading a book that tells the story of such an endeavor during a time when planes had not been invented can catch the attention of any reader.
4. The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s crime fiction depicting the famous consulting detective Sherlock Holmes and his sidekick Dr. Watson is famous worldwide. The cases have managed to enrapture even the fussiest reader. Moreover, all of the novels and short stories that are part of the series are filled with action and adventure. They are part of a list of classic adventure books that will enchant readers for years to come.
5. Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton
John Hammond creates the ultimate amusement park on an island. His main attractions are cloned dinosaurs that can be seen alive, in their habitat, roaming the Earth once more. However, when disaster strikes and the dinosaurs get loose due to sabotage, it is up to a team of scientists to save everyone on the island. “Jurassic Park” is a classic adventure novel that will keep you on the edge till the very last page.
