Throughout the years we have used ovens that work with wood, with gas and even electric ovens. It is only natural that the next step we make is sun powered ovens. A recently presented invention is GoSun, the portable solar oven. This device is able to reach temperatures of up to 550°F (288°C). With the help of GoSun people are able to cook a full meal even during a cloudy day. The oven is tube-shaped. It uses parabolic mirrors that are able to concentrate sunlight onto a glass cylinder. In this way, the contents of the cylinder are cooked.
Due to its large mirrors, GoSun can be used for baking, frying, boiling, and more. The central tube is made of borosilicate glass that is lined with copper, stainless steel and aluminum nitrile. All these materials improve absorption and conduction. Moreover, a vacuum insulates the interior. Due to this feature the solar oven can be used even during cloudy days. The heat is kept inside. A plus of the solar over is that it is easily portable. Due to its design it can fold around the glass tube. The package that is formed is eight inches tall and five inches wide. It weighs 3.5 pounds.
When unfolded, the solar oven’s mirrors must be aligned with the sun. It takes 10 minutes to pre-heat. Afterwards, the cooking time depends on the type of meal and the sun’s intensity. Its creators stated that GoSun can cook six hot dogs in 10 minutes. Recorded temperatures have been as high as 700°F (371°C). However, the standard temperatures are between 200°F (93°C) and 550°F (288°C).
The solar oven comes with a sliding tray that allows you to add or remove food at any time. It is portable and easy to use. You can use it wherever you want and it always remains cool on the outside. Would you pay $279 for this type of oven?
