Inspiring Quotes from The Hobbit
0On the 21st of September 1937 a fantasy novel was published for the first time. Its name was “The Hobbit, or There and Back Again” and it was written by J.R.R.Tolkien. Rapidly, it gained acclaim and became one of the most famous fantasy novels of all time. This children’s book was the beginning of what would later be the rejuvenation of the fantasy genre. It was nominated for the Carnegie Medal and won the prize for best juvenile fiction awarded by the New York Herald Tribune. It remains popular even nowadays and is considered a classic in children’s literature.
“The Hobbit” tells the tale of a hobbit and thirteen dwarves in their quest to reclaim a treasure from a terrible dragon. Moreover, many words of wisdom are hidden in the guise of a children’s story. Below you can find three amazing quotes from “The Hobbit.”
1. “Courage is found in unlikely places.”
“The Hobbit” shows us how a small and apparently insignificant person can change the course of the future. Throughout the course of the novel, its protagonist, Bilbo Baggins, grows in unexpected ways. He discovers that he is brave and loyal, not only a being of comfort, but one of battle and courage as well. The quote above tells us that courage can be found when and where we least expect it. It comes in different shapes and sizes. Moreover, it often surprises us.
2. “Do you wish me a good morning, or mean that it is a good morning whether I want it or not; or that you feel good this morning; or that it is a morning to be good on?”
The fans of this novel will most certainly recognize this quote. It was an answer to a simple “Good Morning” uttered by Bilbo Baggins. The above mentioned quote comes to show us that everything we say can have more than one meaning. As a result we have to think carefully what we meant and say it in a way that does not leave room for interpretation.
3. “There is nothing like looking, if you want to find something. You certainly usually find something, if you look, but it is not always quite the something you were after.”
In order to find something, you must first start looking for it. Nothing will simply appear out of thin air. However, sometimes when we start looking for something, we discover something else instead. Perhaps the new thing we find is useful or not, but it is most certainly something we did not expect.
