Motivation: the key to performing any task with greatest pleasure and enthusiasm with a positive end result. We can lose motivation instantly, the tiniest failure can set us back. We face doubt, anxiety about the outcome, insecurity even. How do we keep motivation killers at bay? What is the key to performing well, while maintaining a high level of motivation?
The answer is quite simple, but putting the words into action is not, specialists say. When feeling unmotivated, the best thing to do is to try and understand your thoughts and the impact they have on your emotions. Make an effort to have motivating thoughts and neutralize the negative ones, so you’ll beat the demons of lack of motivation. There are three main issues which cause lack of motivation:
1.Lack of Confidence
Is a problem we all come into once in a while. We feel uncertain of the outcome of our tasks because we feel uncertain about our skills and abilities. If you don’t believe that you can succeed, you’re setting yourself up for failure.
How to fight it? Instead of blaming the competition or making up excuses for yourself, you should focus on being grateful for what you’ve already accomplished. Have a mental list of your strengths, your successes, your abilities and focus on them. It’s all about believing you deserve to be successful.
2. Lack of Focus/ Knowledge
If you don’t know what you want, how do you expect to get it? Find the time to do your research in order to improve your knowledge on a given topic. After you’ve realized what it is that you want to attain, try to move it from “desire” to “goal”. A tangible goal, with clearly set steps gives you something to focus on, and in the end, it gives you your desired outcome.
3. Vagueness/Lack of Direction
Perhaps the most skilled of the motivation killers is lack of direction. Not knowing where to go or who you want to become. Lack of direction affects more than a task, it affects your life. Not having a clear plan in mind means that life will push you in any direction and you won’t know how to fight it.
To avoid this from happening, make a plan with clearly stated objectives. Set your end goal and follow all the steps necessary in order to achieve it. Accomplishing every little step will make you feel motivated and will give you the boost you need in order to reach your goal.
Motivation killers lurk in the shadows and are always ready to kill off your motivation and make you feel insecure. Always keep in mind that you can fight back! Do you know other ways of staying motivated?
